Wildsam Field Guides are a new American travel series with a bygone sense of place. Founded in 2012, the series puts a unique spin on the conventional city guide by featuring genuine experiences and using numerous local interviews. They also include a cultural almanac, memoirs, groups of hand-illustrated maps created by locals, a section of essays, and a superlative list of the best-in categories involving food, shopping, drinks, and entertainment. From the latest Detroit edition, learn about fine classic cars, the Purple Gang bootleggers, the messiest of coney dogs, and the old school DJ Electrifying Mojo. All four editions of the field guides – Detroit, San Francisco, Nashville, and Austin – are available in-store an online.
We're pleased to announce an exhibition of new work from local taxidermist/artist/designer Becca Barnet. Her studio, Sisal & Tow, creates one-of-a-kind work for private collectors, businesses and public spaces. Please join us on July 24th for a reception from 5-8pm.
"Sisal & Tow's new body of work for Indigo & Cotton is a detail-oriented series reminiscent of a miniature natural history museum. The collection aims to send viewers to a macro world through an in depth look at preserved insects and birds, realistic plants and detailed drawings in pencil. Delicately exploring the relationship of the masculine and feminine in nature, the series also takes inspiration from the collecting phenomenon and presentation of specimens during the Victorian era."
